Difference Between Using Java and Flash For Your Website

Java is quite a commonly used language for computer programming and very popular as java programs can run unchanged on most hardware and/or software platforms. This application facilitates functionality as well as page layout. It is used to create animated objects, moving text and interactive dialogue between the server and the browser.

On the other hand, flash or Adobe flash is a multimedia runtime with a cross-platform. It is a vector animated software, used to insert animations, videos etc. into a webpage. It is also used for embedding interactive applications in web pages.

While it may appear that the two are very similar in nature and function, it is a matter of fact they are not.

Functionality:  While java for websites can add logic to the site, it can also control various elements within the HTML form. Flash rather is a means to create animations, games etc to display on your website.

Application:  While java is a language to create codes for programming websites, flash is used, as previously mentioned, to create animations, buttons to be displayed on the website. However, there is a language within flash, called ’actionscript’ which can be used to direct the created buttons what functions to perform.

Scope:  Java has a much wider scope when it comes to creating business websites. The use of flash is usually limited to the introductory page(s) or to embed animations in web pages.

Speed:  Java is a much lighter application than flash and hence is not only easier for the viewer to load it quickly but is also a better option when it comes to web hosting decisions. While flash based websites take a lot of time in loading, which may make the hosting server experience a bottleneck and make the viewer lose interest due to the slow speed.

Search Engine friendliness:  When search engines crawl a website, they read the text script. This makes java much more search engine friendly than flash because java has an entirely text based script. That is why a java based website design is considered better.
